Optional VAT Return deferral until 31 March 2021

27 March 2020

The COVID-19 lockdown is having a massive impact on many businesses. With government restrictions on business activities in place for the forseeable future, many companies are struggling to meet their commitments, whether it be fixed overheads, staff payroll costs or paying their VAT Returns.

In order to support businesses during the difficult time, the government has announced that there will be an optional deferral of VAT payments due from 20 March 2020 and 30 June 2020 . Businesss then have until 31 March 2021 to pay any deferred VAT.

If you wish to defer, simply postpone your payment. No further action is required.

This is an incredibly challenging time for all businesses, but we hope this concession from HMRC relieves some financial pressure. This situation brings personal and business priorities in sharp focus, and Open Digital Tax will here to support your VAT MTD requirements throughout.
